Residual archive, 1899-1989.

This collection consists of materials relating to the life and work of English engraver and calligrapher Leo Wyatt. This includes documents related to Wyatt's upbringing in England at Reedham Orphanage, his finances, and photographs. There is also correspondence, mostly written by customers ordering bookplates from Wyatt, though there are also letters pertaining to exhibitions of his work for several museums and organizations. The largest portion of the collection is made up of samples of Wyatt's work, including bookplates, alphabets, designs for personal use, and wood blocks. Most examples of Wyatt's work are prints of his engravings or sketches of the engravings. There are also published materials written by or about Wyatt and his life's work as an engraver. Also in the published materials are newsletters from several bookplate organizations of which Wyatt was a member. Finding aid is available along with an alphabetical list of bookplates.

Leo Wyatt was an English engraver and calligrapher. Born in 1909, he was raised in an orphanage. He moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 1947 to improve his daughter Elizabeth's health. He moved back to England in 1961 so he could realize his potential as a professional engraver. Wyatt gained fame as a bookplate engraver both in England and the United States of America.
